Convert PNG to WebP on your device

PNG screenshots and graphics are often the heaviest assets on a page. WebP keeps the transparency and sharp edges while cutting the size, usually by well over half. Choose lossless for pixel-exact graphics or a quality setting for a smaller file.

Turn off your Wi-Fi. It still works.
Metadata is stripped. Orientation is kept.

All processing happens locally in your browser; confidential screenshots stay on your machine.

    Why convert PNG to WebP

How to convert PNG to WebP without uploading

    1. Drop PNG files onto the box above, or click it to pick them. On a phone you can choose straight from your photos.
    2. Adjust quality if you want. The default is tuned to be visually identical to the original.
    3. Download. Each file gets a button as it finishes; with more than one file you can download a single zip. The WebP files are written entirely on your device.

    About PNG (Portable Network Graphics)

PNG is lossless and supports transparency, which makes it the right choice for screenshots, logos, diagrams and anything with sharp edges or text. For photographs it is usually several times larger than a JPG of the same picture.

PNG files of photos are large, and PNG has no way to store the camera metadata that photo formats carry.

    About WebP

WebP is Google’s web image format. It makes files 25 to 35 percent smaller than JPG at the same visual quality, supports transparency and animation, and is supported by every current browser, which is why so many websites now serve it.

Outside the browser WebP is still awkward: older versions of Windows Photo Viewer, many desktop editors, print shops and upload forms do not accept it.

    Questions

Lossy or lossless WebP for PNG?

Lossless for logos, icons and text-heavy screenshots. Lossy at quality 85 to 90 for photographic PNGs, where it is far smaller and indistinguishable.

Will WebP keep my transparent background?

Yes, in both lossy and lossless modes.

Can I use WebP in Figma, Photoshop or Keynote?

Current versions open WebP; older ones do not. For maximum compatibility in desktop tools, PNG remains the safer exchange format.
