Convert JPG to PNG on your device
Some tools, forms and document systems accept only PNG. This page gives you a PNG copy of a JPG without sending the image anywhere. Be clear about what you get: converting does not add quality or transparency; it stops any further loss from this point on.
Turn off your Wi-Fi. It still works. The PNG will be several times larger than the JPG. That is expected.
Why convert JPG to PNG
- Lossless from the moment of conversion, so repeated edits do not degrade it.
- Correct orientation applied from the JPG’s metadata.
- Batch mode for a folder of files.
How to convert JPG to PNG without uploading
- Drop JPG files onto the box above, or click it to pick them. On a phone you can choose straight from your photos.
- Adjust quality if you want. PNG is lossless, so there is nothing to adjust.
- Download. Each file gets a button as it finishes; with more than one file you can download a single zip. The PNG files are written entirely on your device.
About JPG (JPEG)
JPG is the format everything opens. It has been the default for photographs since the early 1990s, every device, browser, upload form and photo printer accepts it, and at a sensible quality setting the compression is invisible for photos.
JPG cannot store transparency, and re-saving a JPG many times slowly degrades it.
About PNG (Portable Network Graphics)
PNG is lossless and supports transparency, which makes it the right choice for screenshots, logos, diagrams and anything with sharp edges or text. For photographs it is usually several times larger than a JPG of the same picture.
PNG files of photos are large, and PNG has no way to store the camera metadata that photo formats carry.
Questions
Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?
No. Compression artefacts already in the JPG are kept exactly. PNG just prevents new ones.
Can I make the background transparent?
Not with a converter; that needs an editor or background-removal tool. The PNG will be fully opaque.
Why is the PNG so large?
PNG stores every pixel. A 3 MB JPG can become a 15 MB PNG.
